Hey guys,

I spent this week hovering over the ‘Buy Now’ button for the Garmin Circa. I've been so keen to understand and feel the hype about the WHOOP over the last few years, whilst at the same time respecting Garmin's presence in the running communities. When Garmin dropped their new wearable CIRQA this week, I couldn't help but feel like this was the universe calling me to take the leap. I’ve already got an apple watch, but does the CIRQA have a more health-forward use-case?

One highlight of the week was how my tiktok video (see first vid below) explaining one of the hardest things about GP (social prescribing) received so much love from the medical community and public. It was a nod to the fact that social prescribing is indeed incredibly useful, and there’s much yet to achieve in this space to bridge the gap between patient needs and what’s available to them.

I also abandoned my Q&A Youtube Video idea after I only received a few responses. I've been making videos and content for close to seven years and whilst I've made multiple accounts, this reality just comes with the ups and downs of content creation. I've learned not to take this kind of stuff to heart, which is why I can laugh about it instead (while crying). My first long-form YouTube video will be out sometime this week; I'll be talking about my new mission after qualifying as a GP and where longevity and health tech sit in that plan!

Here’s some stuff I thought you might like this week:

Garmin just unveiled CIRQA, a screenless wearable that rivals whoop and fitbit air (with no subscription needed). Many whoop members seem to be unconvinced, but others are praising its no-subscription model. Either way, the race to capture people’s health data within different ecosystem is heating up!

OpenAI has rolled out a dedicated health feature inside ChatGPT (for US currently), letting users track symptoms and get more tailored medical context. I've already seen evidence (firsthand and otherwise) that people have been using LLMs to enter health questions, data, and all sorts of things most people would probably think to be incredibly cautious with. The business of healthcare is ever expanding and I'm super intrigued to see how these behemoth companies like OpenAI and Anthropic will play a part.

Hilo offers a wearable wrist tracker that measures blood pressure without the inflatable cuff (although it does require you to use a regular machine too for calibration). It’s still a wellness tool (not a medical device), and they argue many users drop their blood pressure over 6 months, possibly highlighting behaviour change rather than clinical monitoring specifically.

Seen anything interesting yourself, reply and let me know!

See you next week,

Dr Fai J
